An Open Letter to Pa

You came home tonight drunk and saying many words about my grandmother's fortieth day. I told Ma I've grown so used to this I've grown into my own stare, something you taught me.

People talk about leaving or leaving behind but all I can think of, now, is how difficult it will be to stay. Plans fall through and I'm forced to reckon with a few more months of uncertainty and a few more months of not knowing where I'm headed and where to go.
